Abbelen,
the success story of an innovative idea!

Heinz Abbelen founded the "Fleischwarenfabrik Abbelen" in the year 1969 in Tönisvorst, as a further development of the family butcher`s that had been in business since 1959. The first customers of the new company were mainly restaurants and cafeteria businesses. At an early stage, Heinz Abbelen recognised the trend toward outside consumption, together with the associated increasing demand for fresh convenience meat products that could be prepared simply and quickly. He developed marketable business concepts, whose implementation in practice was so efficient that Abbelen quickly became one of the most modern major producers in the convenience meat products sector in Germany.

Abbelen today employs approx. 450 highly motivated staff (including temp workers), who produce high-quality convenience specialities from pork, beef and poultry in the production facility of over 11,500 qm. In the market for refregerated foods, we are now one of the leading suppliers in Europe for the segments of partly-cooked meals and snacks. The annual turnover of the company is over € 90 million, and since the year 2000, the company has bucked the general economic trend by achieving annual growth of two figures.
